HIgh body mass index (BMI) is a ssociated with increased morbidity and mortality, especially in terms of cardiovascular conditions. Previous studies have however found survival rates amongst patients with higher BMI, may be better than those patients who were underweight(1). This is the Obesity Paradox. The exact circumstances and rate of neurological survival needs further clarification.
This study looked at the association between BMI and survival outcomes in in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA), with a focus on favorable neurologic survival.
